Handstand Movement Begintermediate Workshop with Helen Downey Yoga, Liverpool

Date: Sunday 28th January 2024

Time: 1.00pm – 4.00pm

Location: Yogacita, The Old Gun Factory, 1st Floor, 20 Watkinson Street, Baltic Triangle, Liverpool. L1 0AF.

We are thrilled to have partnered with Helen Downey, an esteemed Yoga Teacher and Trainer based in Liverpool, for this workshop.

This workshop is designed for individuals like you who are comfortable with kicking up into a handstand against a wall and can confidently hold a chest-to-wall handstand for at least 20 seconds.

To kick off the workshop, Helen will lead a gentle yoga warm-up session that sets the perfect tone for the practice ahead. With her expertise and guidance, you will be guided through a carefully crafted sequence of asanas (poses) and fluid movements designed to awaken your body, release tension, and enhance blood circulation.

Helen’s warm-up will give special attention to opening up your shoulders, loosening your legs and wrists, and engaging your core. These specific areas are crucial for establishing a strong foundation that supports your handstand practice.

After the warm-up, we’ll transition into specific handstand drills and exercises. Our knowledgeable instructors will break down the mechanics of handstands, teaching you proper alignment, hand placement, and body positioning. They will provide step-by-step guidance, offering variations and modifications suitable for all levels of experience.

Throughout the workshop, you will focus on enhancing your endurance, exploring varied entry techniques, improving your balance, and advancing your handstand shapes. Our goal is to help you refine your handstand alignment and take your practice to the next level.

We will guide you through a progression of drills, allowing you to practice and develop your skills in different contexts. Should you require it, we are fully capable of regressing any drill or exercise to match your comfort and skill level.

Endurance plays a vital role in handstand practice. During the workshop, we will introduce exercises that focus on building your endurance, allowing you to hold a handstand for longer durations and with greater stability.

Furthermore, we will explore various entry techniques to add versatility to your handstand practice. By learning different ways to enter the handstand position, you will gain a broader skill set and increase your overall proficiency. We will guide you through the process of achieving these shapes with proper alignment and technique, enabling you to expand your repertoire and challenge yourself further.

Balance is a key aspect of handstands, and we will provide specific drills and exercises to help you improve and refine your balance control. Through targeted practice and feedback, you will develop the necessary skills to find and maintain balance in different handstand positions.

Throughout the workshop, we will be available to answer your questions, offer personalized guidance, and address any concerns you may have. We strive to create a supportive and inclusive environment that encourages growth and learning.

As a participant, you will receive a complimentary goody bag. This bag will contain snacks to keep you fueled throughout the workshop, as well as a trigger point ball to assist you in your handstand practice.

Join us at the Begintermediate Handstand Workshop and embark on an exciting journey of refining your handstand practice!
